![]() Plug the guitar straight into the DI, send the Thru to an amp so the player can have the sound and feel they’re comfortable with, and take the Out to your interface. Step 1: Capture a clean signal signal from the guitar using a DI box (some reamp boxes are 2-in-1 with a DI included). ![]() Once you have all the takes you need, you can send the guitarist home! The fun begins when you can take their DI signals and run them through your collection of amps, effects, and mics. Record the performances with a scratch tone the artist is familiar and comfortable with, and get the sound right for the mix later. That means you’ll need to get up and running fast to capture the best takes.īut what if you didn’t get the ton dialed in all the way? That’s where reamping comes in. Usually a musician delivers their best performances early in a session, while they’re still fresh and not fatigued after 10 hours in the studio. First and foremost, you have to put yourself in the guitarist’s shoes. To put it simply, reamping is a process in which you record a clean DI, and then send the clean track through your amps, effects, and mics for re-recording. A reamp box is a specially designed device that allows you to send a clean guitar signal from your DAW to an amplifier, letting you tweak tones on the fly using a pre-recorded signal. Some are darker than others and have their place and some have some crazy high end sizzle that would go well in busy, heavy mix.Reamping takes place in two stages during both the recording and mixing phases. So far, there are plenty that work for me. It could be my ears, the eq, my guitar or just not what I'm looking for. Having said that, if I try and it and I don't like it, it's not the creator's fault if it is a faithful re-creation. We act in blind faith that the poster's capture sounds true to the source. It sounds great to me.Įdit: I know it takes a lot of work especially when it takes multiple times to sound right. My favorite kemper Morgan ac20 profile was the free one. There are a lot of professional kemper profile makers and for good reason, people have different tastes. The same can said with IRs, cabs and speakers. ****ing glorious.Ĭlick to expand.I wouldn't say there are that many bad profiles.(outside of the ones that didn't copy properly) As with modelers, captures are eq and guitar dependent. Simply devine playing through my actual 35 year old Marshall this evening(1st owner) I'm ashamed i forgot. Imma gonna hold out on what I'm hearing in the room. If it doesnt get there? I'll drop some analog clips. (some IK presets are offensive to the amps I own) I'm willing to hold out, as we're all essentially Beta testers. I'm missing some mid knock, (my bag) and the sweet high end I crave. I understand why you guys are missing the low end. The last new amp I bought was in the 80's. Although trained ears(my expectation) usually know it, before they press record. I'm wondering if room modes can be affecting some of the high gain guys bass response? Bass is the 1st to go. (As quality monitors do) I used a 57 to minimize room reflections. I'm curious if the freq sweep in the beginning was checking both amp response, and room modes. If sharing profiles can only be done on ToneNet and only for free, and no possibility to charge for it, then the Michael Britts of this world understandeably won't make an effort to make the best possible profiles with it.Īnyone else having a capture thats not remotely like the amp? (I've only tried 1) Any corrections you've made are welcome. The danger with Tonex is that the users' outboard gear can be wrong (especially the connection Interface Out to Amp In) and as a result too many bad/mediocre profiles will be shared which would cause a bad rep for the software. Of course with an updated Kemper box, noone would wanna use the old profiles and they'd have to start it all from zero, making the new box less attractive and the old one obsolete. Their dilemma is that the biggest selling point is the availability of profiles for their box and that it's a good platform for people with gear and know-how to make a business selling them, so they will make huge efforts doing the best possible. Kemper keep telling that their profiling amp is as good as it gets and no new version will come out. Click to expand.which kind of makes sense as the audio converters in your interface and the processing power of your computer will both be superior than a >10 year old box.
